The countdown is on! In less than a week I’ll be flying to the United States to meet up with 24 other nature based Occupational Therapists for a weekend of connection and professional development. Last year, four OTs got together and created this love child event in which occupational therapists that practice in nature could come together to share theories, knowledge and experiences. I had the joy of joining in the first retreat and shared my experiences in the blog post below.
This year I’m lucky enough to be able to go back and reconnect with some people from last year, and meet some new brilliant humans. I absolutely loved being out there last year, as I got to meet some lovely like minded individuals who practice “outside of the box” compared to a typical OT practice. The entire retreat is also planned around building connections and skills instead of spreading research, which allows for a much more transferable weekend! I found myself able to use a lot of knowledge I learned right away! Many nature based practices are built from the ground up, challenging traditional practices and using OT theories and knowledge in creative ways to meet our clients, so being able to create networks to share activities and information is so key to practice!
