Day 10 of my self care challenge: social downtime

Today is the “last day” of my self care challenge, but hopefully I can continue my intentional self care moving forward! It’s been a great reminder of how many intentional choices I can make to be kind to myself and take care of myself, and something I think I should repeat in the future as a nice reset.

Social downtime was my theme not only for today, but for tomorrow and Friday as well. Over COVID I realized how much I missed social connection but also how tired it makes me. I realized that often it’s the masking and putting on a show that hosting people typically requires that exhausts me. But the people that don’t exhaust me are the ones that I can just EXIST around. So these days I often choose to surround myself with people that can just BE with me. Tonight I visited my sister who just came back from a vacation. We went for an hour long walk and caught up, and then made dinner together and spent time sharing stories and tik toks. Tomorrow I’ll be heading to a friend’s house for tea and snacks, painting and trash TV (WHAT A TREAT!), and Friday I’m meeting a friend for coffee and a yoga class after work. No stress, an appropriate amount of time together and just being able to be myself after long tiring work days! These are the social connections that fill my bucket instead of drain it, and the social connections that feel more like self care than work.

Moving forward, I’m hoping to continue adding little sprinkles of self care to each day with a big self care Sunday as usual 🥰

Did you engage in any self care today? This week? This month? If you did what was it? If you didn’t, what can you do today or tomorrow to fill your energy?
