Fable categorizes this as a “dark mysterious thriller

Google summary :

husband’s disappearance inextricably links two couples in this twisty thriller from New York Times bestselling author Mary Kubica

Two couples, two close friends, one missing spouse…

Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.

Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.

My notes :

I’m not one to rate books but if I was I’d give this a 3.5/5 ✨ . It was good in the sense of suspense and trying to figure out what was going on in the mystery of it all, and there was a good twist at the end. Books lose a couple points for me though when the plot is drawn on a bit too long without growth. I think with the lack of character development , this book could have shed some chapters and still told a good story

Overall a good read and one I enjoyed reading through my kindle unlimited membership !

Fable categorizes this as “mystery”

Goodreads summary :

When a theme of murder is woven through a crossword grid, Amanda knows she’s the target.
When Amanda’s husband, Nathan, walked out on her ten months ago, she thought she would never hear from him again. But her crossword setter husband has other plans, and toys with her from a distance, using the daily grid, each clue a mocking taunt at her struggles.
As Amanda becomes more and more shut off from her old life, trapped inside her flat with only the haunting memories of that fateful day Nathan left, she becomes increasingly paranoid. Could these threatening clues be the work of someone other than her husband? Could it be someone closer to home?

My notes:

This started out as just a beach read that was already downloaded on my kindle but I did enjoy it more than I expected. It took a bit to get started but following Amanda’s journey through a frightening time led by crossword clues, and the twists and turns of the plot , I read the last half of the book in a day. I think I may have enjoyed it a bit more with my sister and mom actively solving crosswords on the couch beside me 😛 3/5 ✨

This one was another one you can find through a kindle membership 🙂

Fable categorizes this as a “romance”

Google summary

Four women of different ages and stages in their lives meet each Thursday morning for breakfast to share each other’s sorrows and joys, which draw them closer together. The experiences of Clare, Elizabeth, Karen, and Julia become opportunities for all of them to learn, to nurture, and to overcome life’s obstacles–together.

My notes:

This is completely different than my usual choice of novels which are dark and mysterious, but I was drawn to the cover and something made me bring it on vacation. I’m not sure if I’m biases due to my own life circumstances right now but I was more than thrilled and emotional with this book. I think the main romance in this comes not from romantic relationships but the strength of the bond of these four random women who met in a journaling class. They experience the highs and lows of life and share them with each other and demonstrate the highest level of support to one another. I found myself emotional more than once as I related to some part of each woman’s story and felt gratitude for my own community of humans. It was as if I was in the journal club myself sharing and supporting these women closely 🙂 4.5/5✨

This one was a paperback and the weight of the little book in my hands at the beach added to my joy
