Quote of the Day ✨

Today’s quote comes from my browsing on pinterest while I make my Glimmers board:

I love this quote, not only because of the cute picture it is laid on, but also because I feel like romanticizing your life can be seen as cringey, but is truly the foundation of joy.

In the past, I have learned about smart goals, setting 1 year, 5 year, 10 year goals, and having a “life plan”. I have created a lot of different goals and have started working towards, and completing many of them. As I come into my 33rd year of living, one of the reflections I have is the importance of finding joy regardless of your capability to meet goals in your life. Some people are quite focused on achieving certain goals and milestones, making a mark on their world, and leaving a legacy. As someone that works with many families who are going through a lot of crisis and helplessness in terms of dealing with systematic challenges, I have realized that sometimes these big goals are not achievable as the way that we may have planned. Sometimes focusing on these big goals can be empowering and inspiring, whereas sometimes they can be overwhelming and create a sense of hopelessness. I have done a lot of reflection around societal norms and expectations, and the ways we “should” be living over the last few years and have found a shift in my perspective.

I have found that in the last couple years of exploring leisure activities and rest, the happiest I have been is in taking life day by day nice and slow. The most relaxing and fulfilling days can sometimes include friends and family, big adventures and expenses that may be hard to experience all the time due to scheduling and budgeting. But sometimes the most relaxing days can also be small, quiet and simple.

I have worked hard this past couple years to start romanticizing my everyday life and finding small glimmers of joy in the simple things. I have started a journal routine where I just write one sentence about a beautiful small joy in my day (my glimmers) and have created magic around even the smallest things like getting a coffee, listening to a podcast and going for a walk.

Some of my favourite days in the past little while have been sitting at a cafe writing in my journal, sitting with my cats and reading a book, and making a coffee to lie in bed. If we think of these tiny things, they can be seen as boring and mundane compared to big adventures, but when we go on vacation these are the things we strive for! I love sitting in cafes while on vacation and reading a book… why can’t I do that in every day life? I love wearing dresses and having cute purses on vacation, since I don’t have many opportunities to do that in my daily life due to my job, why not dress up to go for a walk or to go to the store?

This post doesn’t come along with deep reflections or research articles to dive into, but I wanted to write this to hopefully inspire a bit of light into this world that continues to become darker and darker. Take time this week to explore how you can romanticize your life, its the greatest rebellion you can join ❤

love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
