The gift of intentionality

What is the greatest gift someone could give you?

Today’s prompt for Bloganuary (the blog challenge in the month of January) proved to take some time for me to consider the GREATEST gift.

I could be cliche and say time, but I definitely recall some amazing physical gifts that I’ve received that have made me happier than I can explain! So to wrap all of those things in a neat little bow (as you would wrap a gift), I think the greatest gift someone could give me would be intentionality.

Being intentional means showing up in different ways that are purposeful. In terms of gifts, I think this shows in the time you spend or the kinds of gifts you give. My wife for example is a very intentional gift giver and I’ve always felt so special when receiving something from her. This Christmas she gave me a second hand camera that she found on Facebook market place, with extra lenses and SD cards because I’ve talked about getting myself one for ages but every time I get enough money something comes up and I need to use the money for something else. I cried receiving this gift and was beyond excited!

Another way intentionality shows up as a gift for me is intentional time spent – one of my favourite parts of Christmas this year was doing a paint nite with my family, run by my sister. My sister and I do a lot of intentional gift giving as we plan dates for us to go on together

I guess at the end of the day the intentionality trumps any holiday gift – if you’re sharing time, giving me an item or doing an activity with me that you know I’ll love because you’ve paid attention to my enjoyment and my desires, that is the greatest gift of all
